Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa

Two roof areas replaced and maintenance completed at an oceanfront resort near Courtenay — an island job planned around ferry sailings and a resort full of guests.

Project Overview

Two roof areas replaced and maintenance work completed across the property at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa near Courtenay on Vancouver Island, finishing in 2022. An oceanfront resort that stays open for guests and is reached by ferry — so crew, equipment and every roll of membrane had to be planned before anything left the shop.

Roofing System & Materials

  • Both areas stripped to the deck, damaged sheathing replaced and slopes corrected
  • New 2-ply SBS torch-on across the field, with drains, curbs and every penetration properly re-flashed
  • Flashings and fasteners specified for salt-air exposure
  • Seams, flashings and drains on the remaining roof areas inspected and maintained while on site

Challenges & Solutions

Everything crosses on the ferry, so nothing can be forgotten and nothing can be grabbed from a supplier down the road. Materials were measured, ordered and loaded so the crew arrived with everything the job needed, including spares; trips were consolidated to keep ferry costs off the client's invoice, and the resort kept taking guests through the whole job.
